Soldiers and Policemen Exchange Gunfire Over Bags of Rice (PHOTOS)

There was chaos at the Borno State Government House today as soldiers and policemen engaged in gun battle over rice meant for IDPs. Since Monday, the government has been distributing bags of rice and Semovita to poor residents.

As the distribution started today, police barred vehicles from accessing the venue. At about 11am, a Nigerian Army truck showed up, insisting on gaining access to the venue where the items were being shared, in order to fill up their truck.

An attempt by the mobile policemen attached to the office to prevent the soldiers from achieving their goal, led to an argument and an angry soldier allegedly opened fire, injuring a policeman in the leg. The police responded and gunshots rent the air as IDPs scampered for safety.

It took the intervention of the Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Brig. Gen. Lucky Irabor, to get the furious soldiers to withdraw from the battle, which caused panic across Maiduguri.

Addressing the parties in conflict, Irabor described the situation as “shameful and highly unbecoming of uniformed officers”. His words: “What is a bag of rice that will give you the cause to be angry? Bag of rice? It is shameful.

Let us not behave like children: all of us have children at home. If the world hears that it is because of bags of rice that made police and soldiers to be fighting, is it not shameful?"

Man Beaten to Death By Police Is Buried with Bullets, Knife, Eggs, Cutlass and More to Avenge His Own Death (PHOTOS)

22-year-old boy Richmond Osei a.k.a Tawiah who died out of police brutality in Krofrom, Ashanti region, Ghana, was laid to rest on Thursday, 16th of June, amidst invocation of curses by the family. He was allegedly brutalized to death by the police on patrol duties after he was mistaken as a thief.

The family put some items such as eggs, cutlass, bullet cartridge, knife, a piece of Kente cloth, a pair of shoes, cup and a broom in his casket. The items, according to them, are meant to aid Tawiah in the spirit world to avenge his death.

His aunt said she had 'Nsamankom' (a trance that enables the living to interact with the dead) and he instructed the family through her to put the items in the coffin to avenge his untimely death. The family contested the autopsy report which said he died of natural causes. The report concluded that Tawiah died of a heart attack.

In an interview, one of the family members said: "its all about tradition, we want him to haunt his killers by using these items, he shouldn’t allow them to go scot free, he should deal with them in equal measure, we want him to use the cutlass to butcher the police involved in the act and any management member of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) who also has a hand in his death."

Lagos Lawyer Drags Linda Ikeji to Court, Demands N50million in Damages

Pending the time of the hearing of the main suit, Justice O.H. Oshodi granted an injunction restraining Linda Ikeji from further use of the lawyer’s picture otherwise she would be committed to prison for contempt of court.

News obtained the copy of the court order which was granted on the 12th of May, 2016, wherein the court restrained the blogger from further publishing Mr. Olumide Babalola’s pictures for crime-related stories.

News also reliably gathered that the award-winning lawyer who just returned from New York, United States of America, where he was presented with an International Gold award for quality and excellence in business in recognition of his varying public interest litigations had earlier written to Linda Ikeji to desist from further publication but the blogger called him bluff.

The matter has been adjourned to September 2016 for hearing.

I will not get married just because ‘Aki’ did – Pawpaw

Nollywood actor, Osita Iheme, alias PawPaw has responded to allegations that he and his ‘twin’ in the industry, Chinedu Ikedieze alias Aki, are having some misunderstanding which sprung up after the latter got married.
There had been speculations that the duo are at loggerheads as they haven’t been seen together in movies and social gatherings ‘as usual’.

Denying the reports, the Imo state-born told the Sun, “There is nothing really going on between us. There is no movie to feature both of us so we have been doing our stuff separately. If any producer wants us together in his movie, then we shall do it as usual.”
When asked why he is still enjoying life as a bachelor when Aki has been married for over six years, Pawpaw said he was taking his time.
The ‘Brain Box’ actor said, “Marriage is not a step to be taken because other people are taking it.
“Even if the person is your twin, you don’t have to do it just because he did it. It is something you do when you are ready. I’ll take that step when I’m fully ready,” the 33-year-old comic actor stated.

Why Buhari did not release details of stolen asset recovered from corrupt officials – Lai Mohammed

Buhari-US-Chamber-Commerce
President Muhammadu Buhari did not release details of looted asset, recovered from corrupt persons, due to “legal reasons”, an official has said.
The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this on Sunday evening, hours after Mr. Buhari’s Democracy Day broadcast.

“Yes, he initially said so (that he’ll give specific details about recovered loot), but he was advised against doing so for legal reasons,” the Cable Newspapers quoted Mr. Mohammed as saying during an interview on Channels Television.
Mr. Buhari had on May 14 in London promised to provide specific details of stolen asset by former public officials.
“So far, what has come out, what has been recovered in whatever currency from each ministries, departments and individuals, I intend on the 29th to speak on this because all Nigerians are getting from the mass media because of the number of people arrested either by the EFCC, DSS. But we want to make a comprehensive report on the 29th,” Mr. Buhari had said.
But during his nation-wide address on Sunday morning, the President failed to make the details public. Instead, he said, the Information Ministry would soon release relevant details.
The development immediately drew the ire of Nigerians, who became outraged that their leader has once again failed to live up to his words.
But Mr. Mohammed said his principal has the right to reverse himself.
“Of course, he has a right to reverse himself on that,” he said.
Mr. Mohammed, however, said the administration will publish some details of recovered loot, but a far cry from what the president initially promised.
“We will get the list but not today; before the end of the week. But I must say not with the names,” he said.
